Welcome to Cole Valley South Cub Scouts
Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement, originally started in 1916 for younger brothers who wanted a ‘look–in’. In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys.
What is Cub Scouting?
For Cubs, excitement and adventure are key. As a Cub Scout they will get a chance to try lots of different activities and are introduced to exciting outdoor skills and take part in adventurous activities.
There are loads of fun things you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities, such as music, emergency aid, pioneering, exploring and computing, which can lead to earning a badge that they can wear on their uniform. Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days outs, or try new outdoor activities like climbing, archery and kayaking. They will also go camping with the rest of their pack, which will mean sleeping in a tent and doing lots of outdoor activities. Essentially, Cub Scouts learn by being adventurous, having fun and making new friends.
What is the age range for Cub Scouts?
The core age range for the Cub Scout Section is from 8 to 10½ and the Cub Scout Section programme is designed to be delivered to this age group.
District Activities
There is an interesting and exciting programme of activities and events that are organised by the Cole Valley South District Cub Scouts team each year. These are open to all our Cub packs where they come together to have even more fun, take part in competitions, learn new skills and experience new activities.
Current District Cub Scouts events that our team organise include:
– Chess Competition
– Football Competition
– Backwoods Cooking Day
– Night Hike
– Cooking Competition
– Cub Council
In addition to the above, we may also hold a District Cubs Day Trip or Sleepover. Every few years we will also organise a District Cub Camp allowing all our Cub packs to come together for one big camping experience full of adventure and outdoor activities. We also join the other sections on our District Camps.
