Mike Bennett, our current District Explorer Scout Commissioner has decided to step down from leading our Explorer provision in Cole Valley South. We would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his service in the DESC role, overseeing the Explorer programme, supporting Units with their development, working on DofE provision as well as organising the recent Explorer Belt to Malta amongst many other international trips.
The search is on for a new volunteer team leader for our 14-18 Explorer provision in Cole Valley South, and we need you to think about anyone you know who would thrive in this role!
Please have a read of the below which sets out what we are looking for and how to get involved. Please forward this information onto anyone inside or outside of Scouting that you think would be potentially interested in joining our team.
So what is the role?
This role holds the title of District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) and acts as a manager, supporting other volunteers to ensure the District Explorer provision runs effectively and provides quality Scouting to more and more young people in Cole Valley South and the surrounding area. This role would be great for an individual but would also work well as a shared role with a team of 2 or 3 people.
In a nutshell, the DESC would:
- Inspire and enthuse people
- Apply strategic thinking to a challenge
- Build and lead a team of key volunteers
- Be resourceful and energetic
- Believe passionately about developing young people and volunteers
What’s in it for you?
Volunteering with us is both fun and rewarding. It offers the opportunity to develop a range of skills and attributes which are transferable to the workplace, such as confidence, social skills, teamwork ability and leadership and management skills, including line management experience. In addition to this is the opportunity to rediscover adventure, make new friends and get involved in the community; all of which is great for personal development and will enhance the CV.
A copy of the search pack can be found here which contains details about the District, and the Role.
How to apply?
You can either apply for the role yourself or nominate someone that you think would be suitable for the role. For people that are nominated, we will arrange to have an informal conversation with them to understand if they would be interested/willing to apply for the role.
