New Appointments in Cole Valley South

Dear All,

I am pleased to be able to confirm the following new appointments to the District Team;

District Youth Commissioner – Sophie Bourne

Sophie Bourne joins the team as our first District Youth Commissioner. Sophie’s main task will be to pull together the District’s strategy to ensure that young people in Cole Valley South can shape their Scouting and will also work as part of the County Youth Commissioner team. Sophie will work to develop strategies to support section leaders, GSLs and ADCs with youth engagement in line with the work that UKHQ is carrying out. Sophie is also Cub Scout Leader at 312th Birmingham (Bells Lane) Scout Group. This is an exciting new role in the District and one that could go in many different directions so as we begin to shape this role Sophie will keep the District updated.

District Explorer Scout Commissioner – David Harris

I have recently appointed David Harris as District Explorer Scout Commissioner for Cole Valley South, taking responsibility for 14 – 18 Explorer Scouting in the District. David’s role will be to support Explorer Units across the District, line manage our Explorer Leaders and also steer the District’s programme of Explorer events and activities. David is also Group Scout Leader for 312th Birmingham Bells Lane Scout Group and brings a wealth of knowledge to the team with experience in running an Explorer Unit and Explorer activities across the County.

District International Adviser – Sean Kelly

I would like to welcome Sean Kelly who joins us as International Adviser for CVS. Sean’s role will be to help support District international events and activities as well as supporting groups who wish to run international themed activities and take groups away abroad. Sean is also Birmingham County’s Youth Commissioner amongst other roles. Sean has a wealth of international experience, recently attending the World Scout Jamboree in Japan and managing a Sub Camp at BrumJam 2016, Birmingham’s international jamboree.

Assistant District Commissioner (Development) – Lewis Hitchen

I have appointed Lewis Hitchen as Assistant District Commissioner (Development) with a focus on supporting me with the growth of youth and adult members in the District, supporting with the recruitment and mentoring of new Scout ‘Managers’ and identifying gaps for new provision. Lew will continue to manage joining requests and steer support for sectional ADCs with large scale events.
