District Chairperson
This could be your best decision yet.
Scouting relies on strong leadership. So if you can motivate others, keep a cool head and balance a variety of views then you would be an ideal chairperson for Cole Valley South. With experience of steering meetings to produce excellent decisions, you’ll be equally willing to speak your mind as encouraging others to express their views.
You will use your strong communication skills help to help team of committed adult volunteers who make up a Executive Committee arrive at a good decision that will benefit young people. Able to work as part of a team, you will also contribute the direction and development of the Cole Valley South.
No previous experience of Scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values. We will provide all appropriate training and ongoing support.
Cole Valley South is part of The Scouts, offering fun, friendship and skills for life to over 460,000 young people across the UK.

You can inspire, motivate and plan ahead. You’ll enjoy working with adults and young people in your local area and seeing the impact of your efforts. You’ll be organised, diplomatic and know how to get the best of out people.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and keen individuals to join our programme team. You’ll be responsible for inspiring, leading and supporting the development of Scouting in Cole Valley South. You’ll be working closely with our District Team and be a key person supporting district activities and events, as well as development.

District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC)
This role holds the title of District Explorer Scout Commissioner (DESC) and acts as a manager, supporting other volunteers to ensure the District Explorer provision runs effectively and provides quality Scouting to more and more young people in Cole Valley South and the surrounding area. This role would be great for an individual but would also work well as a shared role with a team of 2 or 3 people.
In a nutshell, the DESC would:
- Inspire and enthuse people
- Apply strategic thinking to a challenge
- Build and lead a team of key volunteers
- Be resourceful and energetic
- Believe passionately about developing young people and volunteers

District DofE Advisor
Shaping their futures and ours.
The search is on for a new volunteer team leader for our DofE provision in Cole Valley South, and we need you to think about anyone you know who would thrive in this role!
As District DofE advisor, you would look to support your District’s Explorer, Network and Young Leader Units in running and delivering the DofE Award. Your key role will be the local support contact to enable you to develop existing DofE programmes in your district as well help create new ones in areas and units that may not yet be currently delivering the programme.
You will also work alongside the County Advisor and other District Advisors to help progress and improve the delivery of the award within Birmingham County.

Group Scout Leader
Taking the lead.
The search is on for a new volunteer team leader for various groups across our District.
This role holds the title of Group Scout Leader (GSL) and acts as a manager, supporting other volunteers to ensure the [Group / District] runs effectively and provides quality Scouting to more and more young people in Cole Valley South and the surrounding area. This role would be great for an individual and but also work well as a role share with a team of 2 or 3 people.
In a nutshell, the GSL would:

- Build and lead a team of key volunteers

- Believe passionately about developing young people and volunteers

Flexible Volunteering
Interested in an Assistant Section Leader, Sectional Assistant or Group Occasional Helper role? We have flexible roles available to suit time commitments so you are able to give as much time as you can. All roles are subject to interview, The Scout Association’s appointments process (where applicable) and induction with the relevant line manager. Some roles may require applicants to be eligible for Charity Trustee status.
